Happy Birthday to Queen Elizabeth - memories of her 50th Jubilee

The White Tower, Tower of London
The first time we were in England was twenty years ago. It was the 50th Jubilee for Queen Elizabeth and things were buzzing. Even when we got to Scotland, the flags were flying and the kind words spoken. It was a national party; a celebration of a lady. In Scotland we visited her summer home, Balmoral, and there things were low key, but still she had been monarch for fifty years.

When I was young, I remember how much my sister was excited about Elizabeth's coronation. It made the young Queen a superstar among young women. I was, as a 9-year-old boy, unimpressed.  I now wish I had paid more attention.
