WELCOME

This blog is about the adventure of traveling and especially the interesting people that you meet. We will share stories about people and places we have encountered from around the United States, Ireland, Scotland, England, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, France, Canada, Spain, Mexico, The Vatican, The Netherlands, Belgium, Zambia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Liechtenstein, Portugal, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, and more. This is not a travelogue -- we leave that to Rick Steves -- this is a collection of fragments in the journey of life.

Florence, Italy - enough art to last

This photo is taken from the monastery on the hill across the Arno.

If I were asked for advice regarding Florence I would say: "Stay as long as you can". Florence is a hot spot for tourists. I like to point out that hot spot means they are great visits. If you don't like crowds try the Sahara.

Florence is best seen slowly. There are many hidden treasures. If you are looking for good and even famous art, there is the Uffizi and a hour looking at the "Birth of Venus". The small cafes on the side streets also are a pleasant way to spend a couple of hours reading the guidebook. Don't rush it.
