The best adventures are those that contain surprises. There are wonders to be discovered by getting lost in the Highlands of Scotland or on the back roads of New England. There may just be a chance to meet a special character who changes your life. In ancient times these were sometimes known as angels.
WELCOME
This blog is about the adventure of traveling and especially the interesting people that you meet. We will share stories about people and places we have encountered from around the United States, Ireland, Scotland, England, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, France, Canada, Spain, Mexico, The Vatican, The Netherlands, Belgium, Zambia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Liechtenstein, Portugal, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, and more. This is not a travelogue -- we leave that to Rick Steves -- this is a collection of fragments in the journey of life.

Narrow places
I am amazed at the size of streets in Europe. Some are very narrow. But, then they were built when people walked everywhere.

More signs along the European Roads
Notice the round sign above the tow-away sign. The polizia are serious. That sign actually means do not enter. Notice above the sign that there is a camera. They will take your picture and in 6 months you will receive a ticket in the mail. The cost is about $180 (plus $60 to the car rental company for their giving the polizia your address.) They will find you. If you come back without paying, you will re-enter Italy as a wanted man/woman.

Rick Steves - loved or not
We stayed at a bed and breakfast in Dingle, Ireland. The owners were proud that Rick Steves recommended their place and their tour which they provided. (They were also proud of their children - see second photo.) The thing we discovered was that there were folks that wished that Steves had not made their community popular and other folks that felt that they should have been recommended. As a writer I find that you can do something and some like it, others don't, but you have to tell what you think is the truth. O, as for us. we recommend the tour and rate the bed and breakfast as a "C" for bed and an "A" for breakfast.

Passo Giau near Cortina in the Dolomites
9,000 feet - people on bikes, motorcycles, and cars all gathered for the view and maybe a brew.
Absolutely amazing.

Could not help myself
It was too much to resist not to take pictures of these signs in Feldkrich, Austria. Must be a popular family.
We are ahead of time - what's Sirmione?
We were ahead of schedule on our way from Lake Como to Verona -- well, we thought we were until we realized we had left our passports at the hotel in Lecco. Lots of time, so there looks like an interesting albeit narrow spit going out into Lake Garda. The sign said Sirmione. Let's try it. WOW.
