WELCOME

This blog is about the adventure of traveling and especially the interesting people that you meet. We will share stories about people and places we have encountered from around the United States, Ireland, Scotland, England, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, France, Canada, Spain, Mexico, The Vatican, The Netherlands, Belgium, Zambia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Liechtenstein, Portugal, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, and more. This is not a travelogue -- we leave that to Rick Steves -- this is a collection of fragments in the journey of life.

Tale of Two Cities

We are fortunate to leave near San Francisco and also to have a small home in Portland, Oregon.
In many ways the cities are alike. They are both built on hills, are urbane, and progressive. They each have unique identities and cultures. Both sitting on the west coast of the United States, have relatively short histories when compared to the east coast or to Europe. Both are places that are true melting pots where a variety of people have come to exercise creativity. Both cities are great places to visit. The picture above is one I took from a boat in the Willamette River of a portion of Portland's downtown.
