WELCOME

This blog is about the adventure of traveling and especially the interesting people that you meet. We will share stories about people and places we have encountered from around the United States, Ireland, Scotland, England, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, France, Canada, Spain, Mexico, The Vatican, The Netherlands, Belgium, Zambia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Liechtenstein, Portugal, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, and more. This is not a travelogue -- we leave that to Rick Steves -- this is a collection of fragments in the journey of life.

What Not to Pack - opinion

Let's say you are going to Europe. I will choose Germany as an example. What don't you need to pack?

A major website has underwear to buy for travel. They are expensive. The selling point it that you can wash them out each night and they are fast drying. So is most other underwear or use a hotel hair dryer. Or you can be like my traveling companion who brings old underwear and throws them away.

You do not have to bring a medicine cabinet. Yes, bring those prescribed and keep them in their bottles. But you do not need headache medicines or cold remedies. Germany is not a Third World Country. There are drugstores everywhere and there are nearly free urgent care offices there too. (Cheaper than US.)

If you are travelling for a week bring 3 shirts that you can rotate. If something goes bad with one or all, the stores have great bargains on shirts, and you then have something unbreakable to bring home.

Go through everything in your suitcase and if you can live without it, live without it. Traveling light is traveling well. Sure, bring your camera and a extra chip (although you can buy them everywhere) but leave the heavy stuff home.
