WELCOME

This blog is about the adventure of traveling and especially the interesting people that you meet. We will share stories about people and places we have encountered from around the United States, Ireland, Scotland, England, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, France, Canada, Spain, Mexico, The Vatican, The Netherlands, Belgium, Zambia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Liechtenstein, Portugal, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, and more. This is not a travelogue -- we leave that to Rick Steves -- this is a collection of fragments in the journey of life.

Waterton Lakes Narional Park

Waterton Lakes National Park is in southern Alberta and shares a lake and border with Glacier National Park in the United States.

This is a World Heritage Site and a beautiful area of mountains, lakes, wildlife and wildflowers. Much of it closes in the winter as it is obviously cold, In fact, even during the summer it can be chilly in the evenings.

The center building is the old railroad hotel of The Prince of Wales. We stayed there and ate there. Afternoon tea was delightful as were our meals. The rooms are not modern nor all that comfortable. They remind me of Crater Lake Lodge. It is in a magic place and the views may be worth the price to you. They were to us, but having stayed there, I’d stay elsewhere next time and go up to the hotel for Tea, cocktails and a late dinner.

While we were there, we struck up a conversation with the harpist playing in the lobby.  After work, she came back to visit with us and share things about her life, her Italian boyfriend, and her brothers who own a eatery in the village. This is why we travel. We go to meet interesting and talented people.

While there we went up to Red Rock Canyon and checked out the museum. The Village is slow and easy and really a nice place to walk. There are lots of galleries.
