In Venice you will find the first Jewish Ghetto. They wished to separate them from the other population so they designated an island where a foundry stood to be the home for Jews. The word for this place was "ghetto". We were there several times. We visited the museum, talked to folks in the large central court, and had dinner there one evening. We were there when they celebrated Rosh Hashanah. Reminded one of the Merchant of Venice. The bottom photo is one of only a couple of stores in the area which is one of the least commercial in Venice.
The best adventures are those that contain surprises. There are wonders to be discovered by getting lost in the Highlands of Scotland or on the back roads of New England. There may just be a chance to meet a special character who changes your life. In ancient times these were sometimes known as angels.
WELCOME
This blog is about the adventure of traveling and especially the interesting people that you meet. We will share stories about people and places we have encountered from around the United States, Ireland, Scotland, England, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, France, Canada, Spain, Mexico, The Vatican, The Netherlands, Belgium, Zambia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Liechtenstein, Portugal, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, and more.
