WELCOME

This blog is about the adventure of traveling and especially the interesting people that you meet. We will share stories about people and places we have encountered from around the United States, Ireland, Scotland, England, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, France, Canada, Spain, Mexico, The Vatican, The Netherlands, Belgium, Zambia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Liechtenstein, Portugal, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, and more. This is not a travelogue -- we leave that to Rick Steves -- this is a collection of fragments in the journey of life.

Things learned by surprise

The two dishes above are both escargot. The snails in the top photo are back in their shells. The lower ones are served inside cherry tomatoes. This is France. Even more French are Steak and Fries or Mussels and Fries. My favorite meal was Mussels and Fries with a side of Chardonnay at Mt. St. Michele on the Burgundy Coast.

Take your on Tylenol to Europe. Theirs is in blister packs and costs ten times what our generic does. But, buy your dental floss in Italy. You will thank me. Also Italian is their cough syrup'

In England, most medications are cheaper, so if there is a regular one you use check it out.

Tums in Slovakia bear no resemblance to Tums in the U.S.A. and you cannot tell unless you read Czech.

I learned to drink Scotch from a Scotsman. I learned how to eat Waffles from a Belgian guide.

I will list more of these in the future, but remember to drink beer, wine and bottled water everywhere.
