WELCOME

This blog is about the adventure of traveling and especially the interesting people that you meet. We will share stories about people and places we have encountered from around the United States, Ireland, Scotland, England, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, France, Canada, Spain, Mexico, The Vatican, The Netherlands, Belgium, Zambia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Liechtenstein, Portugal, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, and more. This is not a travelogue -- we leave that to Rick Steves -- this is a collection of fragments in the journey of life.

Balmoral Castle, Ballater, England

On a road trip through England and Scotland we were coming from Inverness on our way to St. Andrews. Our goal was to stay in the town of Ballater and early in the morning go and visit Balmoral. The King (in our case the Queen) owns the castle so you need to pay a fee.

It is impressive with its stables and gardens and one easily sees why it would be a retreat for the royal Family.

Ballater, itself, is a nice place and before going to the Castle  a great stop  (for me) is the village church where the family worships when in residence.
