WELCOME

This blog is about the adventure of traveling and especially the interesting people that you meet. We will share stories about people and places we have encountered from around the United States, Ireland, Scotland, England, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, France, Canada, Spain, Mexico, The Vatican, The Netherlands, Belgium, Zambia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Liechtenstein, Portugal, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, and more. This is not a travelogue -- we leave that to Rick Steves -- this is a collection of fragments in the journey of life.

I post on Trip Advisor because they have helped me

I post reviews, photos and notes on Trip Advisor because it has been very helpful to us as we plan our trips and itineraries. I post on the UK, Ireland, Italy, Austria, California and Oregon forums.  It is helpful to hear what other people have found out about where they are headed. You can read the ads, but it is more helpful to read the reactions and experiences of the travelers. Here are a few pictures posted. A crypt near Piazza dei Signori in Verona, Italy.

Mittenweld Germany

Just a note that the borders between Germany, Austria and Italy have been "moveable" over the generations. If you wake up in Northern Italy, Austria or southern Germany you need to check the hotel phonebook to know where you are. The locals are not all that different from one another.

Pointedy things in London

Nelson's Column

Outside Buckingham gate

Prince Albert Memorial

Central London TV and cell tower

It is interesting to me that everywhere I go there are towers and objects pointing to the sky.  It is not just at churches, but at other places. Continental Europe has a bunch, but so does London. (See posts on this blog for Ireland and Italy)

London Theater

While in London the last time we went to see Agatha Christie's "Mousetrap" at the St. Martin's Theater.  It is the longest running play ever. I cannot tell you how it ends or they will kill me.
It is a most civilized thing - this theater in London - there is a little dressing up and there is the full bar on each level. Watching good acting while sipping South African wine is good sport.

Dogs

Murano Island, Venice, Italy

Bantry, The Irish Republic

When  I go away from home I must leave my dog. The cost of the kennel often would pay for his flight to Rome or Dublin, but it would be hard on him and even harder on us. I do miss him and so when I come upon another dog, I often stop to pet him or just say "hi". Here are just two very patient pups I met. The one in Bantry was very old and held court at a flea market in mid-town. The one at the top waited patiently outside a glass shop in the famous Murano galleries.
