WELCOME

This blog is about the adventure of traveling and especially the interesting people that you meet. We will share stories about people and places we have encountered from around the United States, Ireland, Scotland, England, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, France, Canada, Spain, Mexico, The Vatican, The Netherlands, Belgium, Zambia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Liechtenstein, Portugal, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, and more. This is not a travelogue -- we leave that to Rick Steves -- this is a collection of fragments in the journey of life.

Rainy Day

Today is rainy in California and we are glad to see it. The drought is not over by any stretch, but we need it. I have walked in the rain in Dublin, London, Paris, Rome and many other cities large and small and it has always seemed to me that the rain changes things. The cities are less busy. Things are quieter. People gather in cafes and coffee shops and are havens for new friends. The photo above is of an obvious landmark. It can be closed during thunderstorms, but is not awful in the rain as it is less crowded. Better yet is finding a nice cafe in which to sit and -- without apology -- to sip a Coffee Americano.
