WELCOME

This blog is about the adventure of traveling and especially the interesting people that you meet. We will share stories about people and places we have encountered from around the United States, Ireland, Scotland, England, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, France, Canada, Spain, Mexico, The Vatican, The Netherlands, Belgium, Zambia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Liechtenstein, Portugal, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, and more. This is not a travelogue -- we leave that to Rick Steves -- this is a collection of fragments in the journey of life.

Barcelona, Venice, and Paris say "No"

I understand. Barcelona is an interesting and beautiful city. It is overrun by tourists that are not always considerate. They may think it is Disneyland. Paris sees millions of visitors because it is a great city, but people put locks on bridges and act like they own it until they go home leaving their marks behind. Venice cannot stand both Global Warming and the huge groups of tourists pouring off the ships. The ships are bringing damage and damaging tourists.
Yes, these are attractive places. Needles, California does not have these problems. But, these cities are people's homes and they just open them to visitors. We are disgusted when we open our home and people do not treat it with the same care they do in their own place.
I can understand, all too well, why it gets old dealing with people who think that paying for a hotel room gives them free reign.
