WELCOME

This blog is about the adventure of traveling and especially the interesting people that you meet. We will share stories about people and places we have encountered from around the United States, Ireland, Scotland, England, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, France, Canada, Spain, Mexico, The Vatican, The Netherlands, Belgium, Zambia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Liechtenstein, Portugal, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, and more. This is not a travelogue -- we leave that to Rick Steves -- this is a collection of fragments in the journey of life.

Knowing the language may or may not be of benefit

Verona, Italy is one of my favorite places. It has all of the interesting things you might wish to visit. We stayed at a converted monastery adjacent to an old cathedral. It was a big surprise in many ways. One way was that we asked the owner if there was a laundry close by. He was not clear about what we said nor we about what he said. We thought he said he was taking his own laundry over and would take ours too. We were low on clean clothing, having been on the move for over two weeks in Italy.

When we got back from visiting the city, everything was neatly cleaned, wrapped in brown paper or hung in our closet. When we asked how much, he was vague until we pinned him down. It seems that he did our laundry for us!

Upon leaving he did not want anything for the laundry, but he got paid nonetheless.
