WELCOME

This blog is about the adventure of traveling and especially the interesting people that you meet. We will share stories about people and places we have encountered from around the United States, Ireland, Scotland, England, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, France, Canada, Spain, Mexico, The Vatican, The Netherlands, Belgium, Zambia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Liechtenstein, Portugal, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, and more. This is not a travelogue -- we leave that to Rick Steves -- this is a collection of fragments in the journey of life.

Balmoral Castle, Scotland

The trip through the highlands of Scotland to Balmoral Castle is worthwhile by itself. With villages like Ballater and lovely bed and breakfasts and the narrow roads through pasturelands, it is rural UK at its best. We stopped for a tour of the neighborhood church as we got to Balmoral a tad early and then made it across the road to the castle grounds. There are stables and out buildings along with a well tended garden around the main building. Surprising to me were the excellent paintings by Prince Philip displayed in one wing.  This photo is not your usual one as it is a near shot of the side of the living quarters.
