WELCOME

This blog is about the adventure of traveling and especially the interesting people that you meet. We will share stories about people and places we have encountered from around the United States, Ireland, Scotland, England, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, France, Canada, Spain, Mexico, The Vatican, The Netherlands, Belgium, Zambia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Liechtenstein, Portugal, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, and more. This is not a travelogue -- we leave that to Rick Steves -- this is a collection of fragments in the journey of life.

The Colosseum, Rome

We went to the Colosseum twice when we were in Rome in 2012 - seems like yesterday, not six years ago - and we learned some interesting things. First, some of it is not there because authorizes took the stone to use in other projects. (The arena in Verona is more complete and is still in use.) Second, it is better with a tour guide than by yourself. The guide will point out a whole bunch of things you do not notice. Third, it looks great from the top looking down, but go down and see the walkways under the arena where the gladiators and animals walked. Spooky to think people were led to their death that way.
