WELCOME

This blog is about the adventure of traveling and especially the interesting people that you meet. We will share stories about people and places we have encountered from around the United States, Ireland, Scotland, England, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, France, Canada, Spain, Mexico, The Vatican, The Netherlands, Belgium, Zambia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Liechtenstein, Portugal, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, and more. This is not a travelogue -- we leave that to Rick Steves -- this is a collection of fragments in the journey of life.

The Golden Gate Bridge

Looking south from the North Visitors' Center
after sundown.

Looking west from mid-span at sundown.

The Golden Gate bridge is as iconic as the Eiffel Tower or the Pantheon. It is a must visit when on the west coast of California. Many people come to San Francisco in the summer and are disappointed because it is often cold and foggy. When the central valley of California heats up the air rises and draws the fog into the city. The best time to visit San Francisco is actually in the fall and winter. It is usually mild and often clear. The photos above were taken on the day after Thanksgiving and while it was a little windy on the bridge, there was not much need for a coat in the city until the sun went down. Please note: people in and around San Francisco do not call it "Frisco" or "San Fran". "Cali" is a city in central America. San Francisco is "San Francisco" or "The City" and it is in "California".
