WELCOME

This blog is about the adventure of traveling and especially the interesting people that you meet. We will share stories about people and places we have encountered from around the United States, Ireland, Scotland, England, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, France, Canada, Spain, Mexico, The Vatican, The Netherlands, Belgium, Zambia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Liechtenstein, Portugal, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, and more. This is not a travelogue -- we leave that to Rick Steves -- this is a collection of fragments in the journey of life.

Balmoral Castle in the Scottish Highlands

Balmoral is a country retreat for the Monarch's family in Britain.
We had it as a destination knowing that none of the royal family would be there.
When some are there it is closed to tourists.
We stayed in the village of Ballater, a lovely place.
Early in the morning we travelled to the castle stopping on the way at the church where the royal family worships when there. A verger took us on a tour.
The castle has large stables and a room dedicated to the art of Prince Phillip among other things.
